Conference Goals and Objectives
We know Lake Võrtsjärv is not just a cubic mile of fresh water.
That the lake is not disposable, that one shouldn’t hurt lake. The lake must remain.
We want to find the best solutions for how a man and a lake can get along.
We need to talk, discuss and agree on in order the lake and the development of the region move forward.
The conference is a one-time review, which assesses what has been done so far and sets new goals.
During the conference we will
- talk about people who are close to Lake Võrtsjärv through work, residence or hobbies. We will acknowledge problems and solutions and plan further developments,
- talk about development plans, spatial plannings, support measures. What are the long-term agreements already adopted, which would still need to solve and what support measures can be helpful,
- talk about the lake and its environmental status; risks and opportunities which result from human activities or natural changes. How to protect the lake? What can be done by each person, local government, the public sector or civil society organizations?
- encourage to take actions for sustainable developments regarding entrepreneurship, nature protection and local livelyhood,
- inform the public and partner organizations about the amount of aid allocated and future needs for the region,
- talk about the Living Lakes network. Living Lakes is an international network and partnership whose mission is to enhance the protection, restoration and rehabilitation of lakes, wetlands, other freshwater bodies of the world and their catchmen areas,
