Tourism organizer of the Lake Võrtsjärv Foundation Maret Kallejärv is taking part of the EDEN Tourism Day in Brussels September 27-28, 2011.

EDEN is the acronym for "European Destinations of Excellence, a project promoting sustainable tourism development models across the European Union.

The project is based on national competitions that take place every year and result in the selection of a tourist “destination of excellence” for each participating country.

The tasks of the project include annual award ceremony during the European Tourism Day in Brussels and also European Tourism Forum, which take place in different countries.

Lake Võrtsjärv region declared the best EDEN destination in Estonia for aquatic tourism 2010
The Võrtsjärv region centred on Estonia’s second “great lake” was today declared the winner of the Estonia’s Hidden Treasures 2010. Aquatic tourism” competition. Võrtsjärv won over the jury with its strong, diverse tourist products, well-functioning cooperative networks and preservation of rich traditions. The winner will present its attractions in September at the European Tourism Forum.

Lake Võrtsjärv Foundation, whose main goal is regional development around the lake Võrtsjärv rural areas, is the main initiator to support local traditions and the creation of entrepreneurial networks in the region. One of the tasks of the foundation is to encourage local people for nature-friendly economic activities which would support the growth of eco-tourism and the development of traditional branch of production in the region.
